Star Trek Toy Extraordinare
For now here's a rough story about how I became involved with Star Trek, and Toy Collecting, it will be edited soon..
When I was about 6 years old I remember the first time, I saw Star Trek. We used to live with my Grandparents, and every week my Grandma would go down to the basement to watch this show she called Star Trek The Next Generation. My Pop Pop thought it was a dorky show and wouldn't let her watch it up stairs. So one time I asked her can I come down and watch Star Trek with her, she said sure! Well I remember the episode 100% now, there was this Alien Named Q, and he made Data a human, and gave Geordi real eyes, but they both wished to return to what they were originally. Ever since seeing that episode I always remembered Star Trek in the back of my mind. Then I didn't even know what a trekkie or trekker was. Heck, I didn't even know there were two series (TOS and TAS) and movies before the Next Generation. So this same time, every week we would go down to the basement and watch Star Trek. I once told my grandma "Hey, Wouldn't it be cool if they made Star Trek Toys!" Well, I never saw them in a store then, so I didn't know if they existed, so my Grandma and I thought that would be cool if they made them. (I now know Galoob made toys back in the early years of NG but I never saw them..) So I said Grandma how about we come up with a list of toys they should make. Every Episode we watched we would add new stuff to it. It was kept on a Yellow Legal Pad. Well a year later our family moved out of my grandma's house, and purchased our own house. I never watched trek much after that. Then on April 23rd of 1993, My Grandma Died. Then 3 Years Later on September 5th of 1996 My Pop Pop Died. My Grandma died of Cancer, and my Pop Pop died of Emphysema. Then somewhere around the date of September 15th,1996 I was at a Country Music Concert, and I'm not a country music fan. So I saw a Toys R Us, across the street, and wandered over. I saw a Geordi 9" Figure in a REALLY beat up box on clearance for 9.00, so I decided to buy it. Then I saw the whole lot of Trek in the store and said "Wow, they came out with star trek stuff." Shortly there after, I purchased a Space Talk Enterprise. Both of these items were taken out of packaging. Then I purchased a Wrist Communicator and a Movie Phaser, those I kept in Packaging, right after that I was swept into collecting. On 11/6/96 I got back into watching Star Trek, I was watching Voyager, and DS9. I was overwhelmed, and found out all there was to Star Trek. I was purchasing Books, and Computer Programs left and right. Then in March of 1998 I went to my first convention. I now own 2 uniforms, and my collection is quite big now. I'm picking up things I missed due to my late start in collecting. However, I feel I'm doing well. I now love to go to Cons, participate in Trek Trivia, going on Toy Runs Etc! I love to check out Trek websites, and other things. I'm really into trek now, and try to know everything I can and always remember that time my grandma introduced me to trek, without that experience I might not be a Trekker or Trek Collector Now. . Then I got AOL and found Keyword TREK, I hung out on the bridge EVERY Second. Then I found Out I could make a Website and I made one it was called TED'S ULTIMATE STAR TREK FAN CLUB, now I look back at my first website, and say GEEZ that was Corny, and look at my New Force one and say wow I've gotten much better. I have my Grandma to thank for getting me into trek. And even though I can't find that list of things we wanted them to make, I know for sure some of it has been produced!
