Welcome to PlutoMission.Com PlutoMission.Com applauds the congressional figures who succeeded in appropriating funding for New Horizons in FY2003, thank you! We ask for your continued support of this worthy mission! Pluto Awaits!
Show your continued support for the mission and thank Congress for their continued support of New Horizons- News
Alert- Senate
and House of Representatices fund New Horizons with $105 million dollars
of funding in FY2003, funding which was added to President Bush's budget,
which did not include funding. For more info go to: http://www.spacedaily.com/news/outerplanets-02m.html In
2001 NASA conducted a competition among industry-university teams to
select the most scientifically exciting and cost effective mission
possible to explore Pluto and the Kuiper Belt. On November 29th
2001, NASA
announced it had selected the New Horizons mission, led by the
Southwest Research Institute of Texas and the Johns Hopkins Applied
Physics Laboratory of Maryland as its choice for Pluto-Kuiper Belt
exploration. With $30 million in funding provided by Congress for
2002, New Horizons spacecraft development has already begun toward a
launch in 2006. The
Bush Administration’s next (i.e., Fiscal Year 2003) NASA budget cancelked
plans to send the New
Horizons mission to Pluto and the Kuiper Belt. Fortunately,
Congress again saved the mission by restoring funding. If New Horizons
didn't receive that funding which was necessary to proceed toward its
planned launch in January 2006, it would have missed the Jupiter launch
window it needs to fly to Pluto. PlutoMission.Com thanks its supporters,
and applauds Congress for its continued support of this mission, we also
ask you to continue and support this mission. Without
continued funding to keep New Horizons on track, we may never
see Pluto before its atmosphere collapses. Indeed, we may never see Pluto
at all. But
with your help, we can save New Horizons and ensure that Pluto
will be explored, completing the reconnaissance of the solar system that
the United States has led from Mariners to Mercury, Mars, and Venus to
Voyagers to Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune. Show your continued
support today! If
you want to prevent the cancellation of New Horizons, write
the key members of the NASA appropriations committee in Congress today.
Please also sign our petition, which shows your continued support for
the mission, and thanks the Congressional figures who have continually
supported the mission. We will also place your name on a list to be given
to the New Horizons team to fly to Pluto aboard the spacecraft. This Website Was Last Updated on October 14, 2002.
