Playmates introduced the new scale of 12inch figures with the "Masterpiece Series". Limited to 10,000 pieces, Playmates hoped to stimulate sales with the new scale, which is suppose to allow greater articulation and detail. Many collectors were depressed Playmates shifted from 9" to 12" but the majority of collectors were impressed with the detail, and depressed about the price of these Masterpiece Figures. After being closed out to Boscov's Department Store (available for between $29.99-$14.99) Playmates rethought there strategy, and cancelled Pike, Sisko, and Janeway, and begun releasing General Assortments, which reduced the price. The book was dropped, and the new packaging as well. To this day the books for Pike, Sisko, and Janeway still sit in a Playmates Warehouse. Also a majority of these were clearanced out to Boscov's which sold them for between $29.99 - $14.99 each.
