Young Alexander Rozhenko created a holodeck simulation of a 19th Century Earth "Ancient West" town called Deadwood. His father Worf played the role of the town sheriff while Alexander was his deputy. Their tasks: to apprehend a killer gunslinger named Eli Hollander. They were joined by Counselor Troi, who played a drifter named Durango.
Meanwhile, Chief Engineer Geordi LaForge conducted an experiment on Lt. Commander Data, attempting to use the android as a backup to the Engineering computer in case of a shipwide systems failure. An energy fluctuation in Data's neural net uploaded part of the Deadwood program into his memory banks. The holodeck safeguards malfuntioned and, one by one, began replacing character with Data dopplegangers - complete with the android's superhuman abilities.
To escape, Worf, Alexander and Troi ran the program to its conclusion, narrowly escaping death in an ambush shootout.
