William Thomas Riker graduated from STarfleet Academy in 2357, ranking eighth in his class.
Riker's first assignment was aboard the U.S.S. Pegasus under the command of Captain Erik Pressman. Pressman and Riker were the only survivors when a cloaking device being tested aboard the Pegasus exploded in 2358. Riker was then assigned to the U.S.S. Potemkin and later the U.S.S. Hood. By 2364, he had become the Hood's executive officer.
Riker accepted an offer from Captain Jean-Luc Picard to become first office of the newly launched U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701-D. At home with Picard and his crew, Riker turned down several command offers to stay with the Enterprise-D. Riker currently serves as Picard's executive officer on the Sovereign Class U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701-E.
