Beverly Crusher was born Beverly Howard in 2324. She first took an interest in medicine when she lived with her grandmother Felisa Howard on the Arvada III colony. Felisa taught Beverly how to use herbs and roots as medication when the colony suffered a disaster.

Beverly married Starfleet officer Jack Crusher in 2348, while she was still in medical school. One year later, they had a son whom they named Wesley. Jack Crusher was killed in the line of duty while serving with Captain Jean-Luc Picard on the U.S.S. Stargazer in 2354. Picard, a family friend, personally returned Jack's body to Beverly and Wesley Crusher.

Years later, Beverly Crusher joined Picard on the newly launched U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701-D as his Chief Medical Officer. With the exception of a one-yeardassignment to Starfleet Medical in 2365, she has remained part of Picard's senior staff. She currently serves with Picard on the Enterprise-E.
